Athletic knee injuries: prevention and rehabilitation
This course will focus on athletic knee injuries with special emphasis on anterior cruciate ligament injuries.
Presented by following speaker
We will discuss the factors that predispose athletes to injury, the effectiveness of injury prevention programs and strategies to identify and treat specific biomechanical deficits.
We will also review the surgical principles of ACL reconstruction and discuss tailored postoperative rehabilitation programs.
The course contains several educational formats: traditional lectures, interactive discussions and laboratory where the participants will practice hands-on performance of injury prevention programs, physical examination tests and tailored exercises.
Learning objectives
By the end of the course the participants will be able to:
1. Understand the epidemiology of ACL injuries
2. Describe and assess for the four main biomechanical theories associated with ACL injuries
3. Describe the most prevalent biomechanical deficit groups
4. Implement generic and tailored injury prevention programs
5. Accurately diagnose knee ligamentous injuries
6. Perform a thorough knee examination
7. Understand the principles of ACL reconstruction
8. Implement evidence-based postoperative rehabilitation protocols
9. Implement evidence-based return to sports criteria
10. Identify concomitant knee injuries and modify the rehabilitation programs accordingly
